Having planted three new gooseberry bushes last Autumn, I was keen to protect the buds and fruit from the birds. However, lockdown prevented me from buying from a garden centre, and I could find nothing suitable on the web, so my ever resourceful husband suggested he could make me something. A walk to some hazel woods nearby produced the required sticks which were then soaked overnight to bend pliantly the next day. Some old netting, lots of ties and, hey presto, a very functional fruit cage !
