Water Watch!

As many of you will know Peter Daughtry keeps track of the rain we have and reports on the monthly amounts for the Parish magazine.

With no rain in sight I thought it would be interesting to compare this weeks rainfall (or lack of it) with the same week last April and to remind ourselves how much rain we have had so far this year.

The last real rain was, apparently on the 20th March, but it did rain almost every day in March up to the 16th (you may say I remember it well).

There was also 93.3 ml in January and 167.4 ml  (or about 6.5 inches) in February (I recall it was described as the wettest February on record.

This week we had a “trace”  of rain on Monday morning, so little you would barely notice it;  the same week last April was also fairly dry with 4 ml, so perhaps the idea that we should expect sun and heavy showers in April needs to be rethought.

The lack of rain is definitely showing in cracked soil but so far the gardens appear to be thriving in the glorious sunshine.

Best wishes
