Tulip heaven in Linda's garden

Sadly none of us will be able to visit the amazing display of tulips at Arundel Castle this month.
Although there is absolutely no comparison I thought I would share some pictures of the tulips that I have blooming in my garden at the moment.

'Red Apeldoorn' is a big and blowsy old variety and blooms every year with its deep black centre showing when the sun shines.  I like the contrast against the pure white of the Magnolia stellata.

I first saw this tulip 'Ronaldo' growing at Parham where it was partnered with 'Princess Irene' and the effect was stunning.  Luckily I was able to get the name from one of the gardeners.  These have been in for a couple of years now and I love the deep purple/crimson colour.

'Gavota' is new to me  but I think it is quite striking and I will certainly buy more bulbs of this in the autumn.

'Ballerina' is an interesting lily flowered variety as it is one of the few tulips with a perfume.  It's difficult to appreciate it however unless you grow it in a pot nearer to nose level !

I have quite a few botanical or species tulips that I've grown for a long time and they have multiplied well over the years.
Tulip saxatilis with its pink flowers and yellow centre makes a good splash of colour in the sun.

Tulip pulchella, a deep pink, is only around 6 inches tall and opens to show blue patches at the base of the petals.

Finally Tulip whittallii which grows to about 8 inches and has a coppery sheen opening to display an orange interior with dark markings.

Best wishes to all

Linda

Beautiful photographs Linda. How fortunate we were this time last year to visit your stunning garden. I love all the tulips you have shown us but especially the species tulips.
