Hallo again everyone and trust you are all keeping fit, healthy and happy!
This year a majority of our roses at Stream Barn have just “come into their own”, a good two weeks ahead of usual …….so if we were having Gardens Open on 14th June you can guess that I would now be seriously panicking!!
So whilst at their relative best here are those photographed today!….and just before the much needed and promised rain showers began.
Starting with the south facing drive you can see the following : Felicia, Frances E Lester, Constance Spry, James Galway and Madame Alfred Carriere and Lonicera Halliana which adds its own delicious perfume to that of the roses.
The white roses pictured are in a north facing border – and include Kew Gardens, Winchester Cathedral, Tranquillity and Climbing Iceberg, all with the background of White Jasmine.
At the back of the house, amongst others, you can see Gertrude Jekyll, Geoff Hamilton, Pink Flower Carpet (all pinks) and the cream/peachyand apricot colours of Sally Holmes, Buff Beauty and Perle D’Or
Included in the “close ups” are some clematis – namely H.F.Young, Niobe and Westerplatte.----and of the roses the peachy-orange one is called Duchess of Cornwall, bought at last years Floral Fringe.
Then the daring yellow and orange single rose is “Eye of the Tiger”… It’s not the usual sort of colour I would have bought- -it was a gift and so, like a good number of roses in the garden, it is loved as a nice memory of some dear friends. It is amazingly healthy and you may see that it has similarities to Rosemary’s “For Your Eyes Only”, which she featured in one of her recent SAGE blogs.
The delightful orangey-yellow bloom is climbing Crown Princess Margareta of Sweden, who apparently was a grand daughter of Queen Victoria and created an English style Garden at her palatial marital home in Sweden
Well- I could go on !---we now have over 60 roses in the garden ---so I would be “going on” a great deal if they were all included.!…...
But each has a history and story to tell and we have our favourites, as well as a few we wouldn't choose again …..
So…….please….. if anyone would like to see a list of the ones we have and see/and or chat about their virtues, assets or otherwise do get in touch.
Happy gardening everyone

Thanks so much Sandie; the "Eyes" series of roses are certainly different and I think I could be tempted by your very striking example
