This amazing weather has brought things on apace.
I have been watering nightly and still feel guilty at doing that so the rain has been a welcome relief.
The Tulips have been a glory, particularly in the pots. When they are finished I plan to put them in the ground in the front garden. Those in the back I had planned to leave but the colours clash with the wonderful Geum ( totally tangerine) which is looking good with the blue violas ((Broughton blue) so they will have to come out to be dried in the summer and then given to our son. Orange tulips would look better with scarlet the other side. Live & Learn !
The potted Auriculas have been flowering for weeks, better than ever. They have bulked up really well and ready to split once they are over.
The Cannas, lilies & tender Salvias that I left in have all survived and sprouting well, much higher than in previous years at this date, were in the past when I had lifted them, kept them in pots in the greenhouse. With this climate change we don't need a greenhouse.
The covering with mulch and a hessian blanket and boughs from the Christmas tree certainly worked this Year.
The wall cladding is really getting established. I've bought two further clematis from Raymond Evison from Jersey. They are specific varieties , which would have been exhibited at Chelsea Flower Show. Only about 6 ft high and I have planted them to lurch over the front wall.
They arrived beautifully packed in tubes & large pots, 18 months established and on little trellis's.
It made us want to go to Jersey once we can travel again.
I've kept lots of scented geraniums and fuchsias to go in the front pots, and to add colour I've sent for some more geraniums from Allwoods at Hassocks. They have a great range and some interesting Pinks & Dianthus.
Keep well & safe and enjoy your gardens

Fabulous! Thank you so much for all the tips Guy and Mary! So good to read especially after having heard your wonderful talk at the AGM. Very much looking forward to seeing your garden again when possible.

Hello Guy
Good to hear about the progress of your garden. Following on from your talk at the meeting in Amberley it is good to see how things are progressing...
Keep up the good work!

Lovely to hear how things are coming on Guy. I having tried your clay buster from Dalefoot I have now found their wool compost which I am giving a try. Glad to see that between us we are keeping up our support for the plant growers. Best wishes to you both
