STREAM BARN - AMBERLEY MAY 2020

Sadly we won’t be having Amberley Gardens Open in June this year……but we still have next year to look forward to.

However in the meantime we thought it might be an idea to share some photos of those roses now already starting to flower in the garden at Stream Barn.

These include :
James Galway, Constance Spry, Munstead Wood and Whiter Shade of Pale.

James Galway…….this rose and Gertrude Jekyll are my favourites, both for their beautiful blooms and also for their strong healthy foliage

Constance Spry …….this climbing rose has masses of the most wonderful flowers ...unfortunately it doesn't generally repeat flower.

Munstead Wood……this ..a gorgeous rich colour and lovely perfume….but its downsides are its thin, willowy stems, so the full and heavy blooms tend to lean over and look downwards ….which is such a shame !

Apparently Austens have withdrawn it ( and indeed a few others) from this years list of their available roses…...

Whiter Shade of Pale ……...this is a fragrant Hybrid Tea Rose…….It has an abundance of large pale pink to white flowers ..and again one with dark glossy foliage. I bought it a few years ago on a foray to NT Hinton Ampner …..where I understand they have now planted a border of 100 of this particular rose.

Best wishes,

Sandie Conlon
