West Dean ,Great Dixter, & Wisley

Being a child of Autumn, as I was born on bonfire night, this time of the year is particularly special to me. With careful planning our gardens burn strongest with the colour of Dahlias, salvias & fuchias. The further into Autumn we go the intensity of colour seems even better.

With climate change we seem to be able to extend the season by a month even two.

This is reflected in all these gardens.

Perhaps we are itching to get the bulbs in but tulips can wait until well into November.

Early planting of tulip bulbs can risk “ tulip fire “

Some interesting bulbs have come from Avon bulbs and Wisley and we still await an order from Sarah Raven but the geranium pots are still not ready to take them.

Do hope you are all enjoying the last embers of the Autumn.
